H.,48, was evacuated with her husband and son from a Gaza border kibbutz after the October 7th massacre in Israel. Another son is a combat soldier on active duty. Soon after H. was diagnosed with breast cancer. She began chemotherapy immediately, followed by surgery and radiation. H. is unable to work in her emotional and physical condition, and her job at the kibbutz is on hold anyway until it is rebuilt. The financial burdens of their situation, as well as  the challenges of their crowded temporary housing, weigh heavily on the family’s emotional and financial well-being. A Lemonade Fund grant helped the family weather the financial burden and offered emotional relief so H. could focus on healing and mourning.

R. is a 75-year old widow from Sderot undergoing cancer treatments. She was evacuated with only the clothes on her back when war broke out on October 7, 2023. Traumatized by the rockets and uncertain when, and if, she can return home. A Lemonade Fund emergency war grant is helping her purchase basic items, and pay for transportation to the hospital for treatment since she has been evacuated to a safer location.

F. is a 75 year-old widow. She lives alone in a periphery community, a long bus ride from the hospital where she receives chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer. One grown son is autistic and resides in an institution. She lives solely on social security retirement payments. Weakness from her treatments has made it very difficult to care for herself. This is exacerbated by treatment for clinical depression. Lonely, alone and ill in her golden years, a grant from the Lemonade Fund allowed her to hire the extra help she needed for her physical needs, and strengthen her resolve to heal from the immediate side effects of her cancer.

N. was 35 when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 aggressive breast cancer. With four young children aged 2 to 7, she was unable to work when her treatment protocol began. Her husband had to cut back hours as a welder to a bare minimum to be available for their young children and ailing wife. Quickly this self-sufficient young family found themselves in financial distress. A Lemonade Fund grant helped relieve the financial burden, enabling the family to focus on the time they had together.  Sadly. N. passed away a short time later.

C., a 20 year-old soldier, was weeks away from completing her army service when she felt a lump in her breast. Instead of planning a post-army trek or applying to university, C. was preparing for aggressive chemotherapy.  During her service, she had special leave to work to help support her poverty-stricken family. Now unable to do this, C. was in a serious financial crisis. A Lemonade Fund grant is helping to cover expensive transport costs to her treatments, and clothing and accessories for this vibrant young woman, who contributes so much to her country. So she can dream, and plan a return to the normal life of a healthy young adult.

My husband and I immigrated to Israel in April. Just a few weeks before leaving Russia to flee the war, I was diagnosed with a severe form of cancer. I had to travel in a bad condition and in a big hurry in order to start treatment as soon as possible. When we arrived in Israel there were many financial restrictions for Russian citizens because of the war. Our family suffered from them, as did many others. Your help was very much needed and timely. D., lives in Israel’s southern region, with her husband and one of her adult children, who has lived with them since he was injured in a terror attack. Recently diagnosed with breast cancer, she has used all of her sick days from her work and is waiting for disability payments from Bituach Leumi (Israel’s National Insurance Institute). The family is living solely on her retired husband’s small pension and is having trouble making ends meet. A Lemonade Fund grant is helping to tide them over while she is undergoing treatment.

I am Z, 33 years old and recovering from breast cancer. When I was in treatment, my social worker told me about the Lemonade Fund. It helped me make ends meet every month since I had to stop working and the expenses kept adding up. But your grant did not just help me financially.
